Our Philosophy

It is our purpose to value each person as unique, filled with gifts and possibilities, and to find ways to discover our common experiences and work together to build a life where these can be shared with others. We want to discover and invent a personal dream for people; to craft a pattern of living that increases people's participation and belonging in our community life.

We will learn together with people how to solve problems over time to make a meaningful change happen. Together we will learn new ways to build relationships, to find welcoming spaces in "the community", and to invent new forms of community experience. We will make any changes in the structure and processes of service delivery to assure that each person reaches their fullest capacity physically, intellectually, and emotionally.

We believe and encourage the rights of all human beings to happiness, self-respect, and an independence that will lead to a richer and more rewarding life.

Testimonials

“The Pierce Home has given me an opportunity to help those with developmental disabilities reach their fullest potential every single day through Day habilitation. In addition to helping adults reach daily goals and teaching them skills to live more independently, I've grown personally and seen improvements in their lives as well as my own. It's an entirely rewarding career, and every day I go home knowing that I've improved the quality of someone's life. My coworkers truly care about what they do and who they work with, and it really makes for a positive, motivating work environment

When I applied at Pierce Home 16 years ago, all I was looking for was a job that payed the bills. Never did I think I would work here long-term. As time went on, working with the staff at Pierce Home and with the individuals that live here, it became more than just a job. It felt like home. Staff at Pierce Home, show great compassion and empathy for those in their care. I see daily how dedicated the staff are in ensuring that every individual at Pierce Home are treated with dignity, respect, and as a person not a job. Working with individuals with developmental disabilities can be a challenge but also is just as rewarding. My goal everyday when I come to work, is to enhance the quality of life for every individual in my care. To make them laugh, accomplish a goal they have set for themselves, and have them feel safe. At the end of the day, if I accomplished that goal then I get to go home feeling satisfied with my days work. The Individuals and staff at Pierce Home greatly enhance my quality of life by giving me the honor of being a part of their lives! ~Melinda Taylor/Professional Manager

“When I applied for the facility maintenance position at the Pierce Home, I was immediately struck by the grounds and structures and the obviously level of attention they received. I felt that if the exterior condition was any indicator, the quality of care for those residents within its charge would probably be very good. I was correct and I decided then that this was a place I could work and feel very proud of my contributions and be appreciated. I have been here for 3 years and have enjoyed the interaction with the fellow staff members, the residents we care for and the management that oversees the day to day activities. The Pierce Home is a good place to work."

When considering residential placement for my daughter, I was aware that there were various options and types of services available. I chose Pierce Home for many reasons. Although it is against the trend of smaller homes, Pierce Home appealed to me because of its size, its country setting, and caring staff, many of whom have been with the agency for years. At Pierce, Jen has room to roam. She can move about between quieter areas of the home and more social areas as she chooses. She grew up in a country setting where I did not have to worry about her running into traffic and Pierce Home provides the same environment. Although often happy, my daughter has challenging behaviors and I wanted a home where there were enough staff to help and support everyone and each other when issues arose. The staff at Pierce have met the challenge of working with my daughter very well and I am very pleased with the care she receives. They have been creative and caring in learning what works best for her. They continue to educate staff and seek new ways to help Jen learn and develop. They have been endlessly patient and persistent in working with her to get the medical care she needs. The best testament for her services at Pierce come from Jen herself. Although she is always excited and happy to see me for a visit home, she is also happy to return to Pierce Home. How do I know? When we turn in Armstrong to get on the gravel road she gets excited again and says, “Home.” Fran Gilliom
